Lesson of motherhood

For mommies out there...Never leave your baby unattended!
Do not ever think that because they are small, they can only stay put..yeah rite...
I have to learn my lesson through a hard way, Chantal had fall from the bed!
It was on Sunday afternoon, the same day where we have just came home from the baby show. She was left on the bed (on the edge of the bed) for just a matter of second, then I hear a small thug, when I look at her direction ( which was facing down on the floor), my heart stop and she cried so loud when she looked at me. And me (panicy and also crying)...quickly took her from the floor, and I can see her left upper lips had swollen and her left chick was kinda reddish and brushes. I knew she must had been so traumatic, and couldn't stop crying. Even though her dad was trying to clam her down, she screams and screams for about half an hour. I kept telling her that I am so sorry that I left her there by herself. She eventually calm down after quiet a while, and laughing again when I let her played with the light switch. Then I bath her, and breastfeed her and let her snooze to sleep in my arms. Her swollen lips gradually disappear with the help of her daddy gel eye mask, though until today there's still a bit of bluish color on her left cheek.

Bowel problem

It has been nearly a month since I've started her with solid food, and a couple of weeks earlier was going normal and nothing seems to be a problem with her passing motion and all. Though since monday, she has been experiencing some problem during her daily bowel movement, she was making noises and making those constipated faces, and when I did check her nappy, her stool was kinda hard, not very hard, but clay kind of hard. She was crying after cleaned her and changed her nappy.

I did gave her an apple pureed on Sunday, and she didn't like it, so I stopped giving her by the third attempted. So it can't be the apple pureed, as today she still having trouble when passing motion this afternoon. Hmm...I did some research on the net and found this:

"Most of us recommend that, when you start feeding your baby, you start with cereal. The three cereals we suggest are rice, barley, and oat; all three are easily digested by most babies. Rice cereal is the traditional first food for babies: it is more digestible and less allergenic than other cereals. However, rice is also the most constipating of grains. I occasionally suggest starting with barley or oat cereals; I usually suggest that a baby be fed all three cereals within 3 weeks of starting cereals."

I am so worried now, cause not only she just showing this constipation after 3 weeks consuming the rice cereal, she seems to loose her appetite too. Although, she still being breastfed every 2 hours during day time, but I don't think that's enough after 3 weeks supplemented with a bowl of cereal. Today, she only took 4 small spoon of rice cereal, she started to be irritated and losing interest in her food. I hope it's just one of those period where she is growing and will apparently goes away tomorrow.

Finally

Remember how chantal hated being in her new stroller? Well, I've managed to put her in there again, and succeed. I guess it was the timing that wasn't right, it was evening, and she was positioned facing out, thus she coudn't see her mommy.

The second time I put her in her bugaboo again, I took her for a ride around lor 107 to lor 106, the second round, when I was busy looking around for any car that might pass us by, I look down on her and found out my chantal had fallen asleep. Hehehe..so I took her back to the apartment and let her sleep for another 15 minutes in her stroller.

She should now learn to enjoy the ride on her stroller :)

Her regular visit

Today was her regular visit for another vaccination, she is now nearly 5 months and we took her to the hospital by walking her in her brand new pram. The first 5 minutes, she was ok, enjoying the ride with daddy, then when we have to stop at the traffic light, she started making those ugly face and kicking her feet. When we arrived at the hospital, I took her out of it, and she was sweating like hell, thus it was the heat which making her uncomfortable, and I thought I was the only one who was sweating all over my face. Maybe the material of the bugaboo wasn't suited for Singapore climate.

She was still cranky when the nurses weight and measured her, she only gain 250 gram since last month, it was odd considering she was being fed every 1 1/2 hours during daytime, and every 3 hourly during night time.

Doctor said, she might move too much, or exercising too much, or she might be those type of baby which always small compare to others. She also said that it is ok, because she is not underweight, though normally baby gain 500 - 1 kg every months. I was kinda sad knowing that she didn't put on weight as much as I wanted her to gain, and sad that I might not successful on breastfeeding her. I didn't want to start her on solid until she is 6 months old, but I guess I have to know. The doctor said it is ok if I don't want to start her on solid food, as long as she regularly pass urines and past motion, and she didn't cry because she was hungry.

I used to be so confident to breastfeed her until she doesn't want to breastfeed again, but now I feel like I failed. Hiks..

Anyway...when we get home, we tried given her that brown rice cereal that the doctor had gave us for a sample. At first she didn't know how to swallow them, then the second round, she opens her mouth and even asked for more. Hehehe..

I don't like it Mom!

Even though, she hasn't start talking yet..she surely can express her feeling.
I was so proud when I finally put up her Playpen last night, it look nice and feels comfy, with the vibrator and a music and all, I thought she would be happy when I put her in there. But O noooo...she was quiet for a couple of minutes, looking around, feeling the mattress beneath her, then when she noticed her mom was about to leave her there. She started with a small whimper, then gradually to a loud cry, when I came to take her out, I was feeling guilty as hell. I talked to her dad on the phone and told him that she didn't like the new Playpen, and that we need to start get her use to be in that playpen soon. I might need to be a little bit tougher to get her to stay put in there, in order for her to be able earn to be on her stomach and start to crawl.
I know it sounds easier then done, but it is have to be done, if not she will not know how to crawl if she never be put down on her stomach. Hopefully next time will be much better!

Chantal 2nd Jab

Today was her 2nd jab of 5 in 1 vaccination, which took us by surprised because she didn't cry when her doctor insert the niddle to her thigh, it was when the serum actually enters her body then she made a small whimper. She also took those diarrhea vaccin which was instered orally with a couple of spits (naughty girl!).

Oyah, we did dressed her in those "pretty woman dress", though she didn't quiet like it, it might be that she didn't like the feeling of wearing dress. I thought she look kinda cute with the dress, everyone in hospital also thought so too. Maybe Mommy should start dressing you with that kind of stuff yah princess?

New Year .. New Look "Bold"

It's the first day of 2007. .

I woke up with a big smile on my face knowing that I have been blessed a beautiful baby and a great husband and also a family that love me so much. .

As I was trying to wake chantal up from her sleep, I told my dear that today is the day we have to shaved our lovely daughter hair. . It is now or never I said. .Though, i knew I myself, didn't have the guts to do it..

So we successfully shaved our daughter head, which took us ages to actually shave it all off and have her head clean..Pheww..she is one active baby I tell you..couldn't stop moving her head, hands and feets..

Eventhough she is now bold, she still beautiful...even more cute then ever!!

Chantal 2nd Months

Chantal dear today is your second months, we have discovers that you can:

1. Smile in response to our smile - you will open your mouth when you smile and the day seems more brighgter for us.

2. Cooing - you will make a lots of vocals sounds, especially if mommy or daddy was singing a song to you, it sounds like you want to sing along with us.

3. Hold your head in 45 degrees - you are now can not put your head down everytime we hold you in upright position.

4. Follow an object with your eyes, from one side to another

5. Say Ah-goo or Ah-gee, mommy thought your were going to say "pagi" :)

6. Puting both your hands to your mouth, and sometimes when mommy not looking, trying to suck your tumb.

Regular Visit to Dr Malathi

Today is chantal regular visit to dr malathi at East Shore hospital. Her weight is now 4.7 kg and she will have her vaccination early january due to our plan to go back to Jakarta for holiday.

Dr. Malathi said that Chantal colic will eventually outgrow her when she reach 3 or 4 months. Her weight gain is good and she consider chantal to be very healthy with only alittle of wind in her stomach today.

Rock a baby

Confused and a little bit frustated on why my lovely chantal didn't seem to go back to her angelic and calm behaviour, her dad bought her a rocking - vibrating chair. Hope that she will enjoy the new sensation of vibration while being seated on it.

She seems to enjoy it, although the fabric of the chair always made her snized twice. (might be the allergic reaction of a baby when introduced to new things)

The more obvious reaction from her when she was put on the chair was her eyes will open wider, and she will make those lovely noises, those baby noise...yupe, as if she was trying to say something, and then calmly fall asleep.
